This GP Training for ADHD pre‑conference workshop has been specifically designed to equip General Practitioners with the skills and confidence to diagnose, treat, and manage ADHD in both children and adults. Taking place on Friday 29 May at the paranaple centre in Devonport, the workshop will provide practical training tailored to the evolving role of GPs in ADHD care. Participants will gain experience in assessment and diagnosis, pharmacological and non‑pharmacological treatment approaches, and long‑term management strategies. This workshop is ideal for GPs and GP registrars who wish to expand their scope of practice, prepare for forthcoming reforms, and play an active role in improving access to timely ADHD care for Tasmanian patients. The 6 hours of training will enable participating GPs to apply for authorisation to initiate the prescription of schedule 8 psychostimulants for patients they assess and diagnose with ADHD. It offers a valuable opportunity to build capability ahead of the main conference and to engage with peers and expert facilitators in a supportive learning environment. Date: Friday 29 May Location: paranaple centre, Devonport Time: 9am-4:30pm
This practical, face‑to‑face workshop equips primary health care nurses with the essential skills to confidently support people living with chronic conditions. Bringing together core principles of chronic condition management, behaviour change, and care coordination, the session focuses on practical application in general practice and primary care settings. Participants will apply evidence‑based approaches to health coaching, motivational interviewing, and SMARTER goal setting, and work through the development of a General Practitioner Chronic Condition Management Plan (GPCCMP) using realistic case scenarios. Clear guidance is provided on patient‑centred care planning, health literacy, multidisciplinary collaboration, and relevant MBS requirements and documentation. By the end of the workshop, participants will have developed a GPCCMP and explored practical ways to integrate the learning into their workplace practice.
