Welcome to Dunedin

It is with great pleasure that we invite you to the 2026 Annual Scientific Meeting of the New Zealand Association of General Surgeons (NZAGS), held in the vibrant and historic city of Dunedin. Our theme — “Serving Communities, Embracing Innovation” — speaks to the evolving role of general surgeons across Aotearoa. As we continue to provide essential surgical care to diverse populations, from urban centres to rural heartlands, we are also navigating rapid advances in technology, models of care, and patient expectations. This meeting is a space to reflect on that dual commitment: to stay grounded in service, while reaching boldly towards progress. We invite you to engage in robust discussion, share knowledge, and reconnect with colleagues and friends. Our programme features a rich array of speakers, with the goal of advancing our collective ability to meet the needs of our patients, our communities, and our profession. We are especially pleased to host you in Dunedin, a city known for its academic excellence, and southern hospitality. Whether you’re returning or visiting for the first time, we hope you take the time to explore all it has to offer — from its stunning coastline, award winning restaurants and more. On behalf of the organising committee and NZAGS, we look forward to seeing you in March 2026! James Wilkins and Nigel Rajaretnam
